The Second Annual Surrealist Ball at the Roxy Hotel

For the second year in a row, the Roxy Hotel has been transformed into a Surrealist tableau, conceived by Lori Zimmer and Natalie Kates. Inspired by the original Surrealist Ball held by Marie-Hélène de Rothschild at her chateau in 1972, the soiree kicked off with a performance by the legendary David Johansen from the New York Dolls- as his alter ego, Buster Poindexter (concluding in a conga line). A Surrealist atmosphere of mannequin heads, top hats, surrealist objects and of course eyes are lips were joined by the excellent creativity of guests who truly dressed the part- as well as 35 Surrealist hats and masks made by Lori Zimmer. The night also featured more live music (and a DJ set by Soul Clap’s Jonathan Toubin), premium open bar, Surrealist-inspired food, and my amazing co-hosts- including a performance Muffinhead and his troupe, and the surreal mask designs of Max Steiner.
